Annual Conference 2004

ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2005

In association with Development Policy and Practice and the International Development Centre at the Open University

Milton Keynes, UK
7th-9th September 2005

Connecting people and places: challenges and opportunities for development

There is an upper limit on the number of conference places, so please book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment

Final deadline for bookings is 1st September 2005.

If you wish to participate in the conference, but not present a paper, either
· complete the online booking form, or
· complete a hard copy and send it to Sally Eaton, Communications Group, The Open University, Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, MK7 6AA.

Latest news: (19th August)

We are experiencing some difficulties with the online booking form, with a security alert message popping up. This is a technical hitch rather than a problem with the security. Please do ignore it and accept the next stage.

However, if you are not happy to do so, please use the hard copy form and send to Sally Eaton. Could you also send an email through to Devcon2005@open.ac.uk to let them know that you have done this.

Cancellations

Please note that cancellations must be received in writing at least one week before the Conference and will be subject to a cancellation charge, as follows:

  • Cancellations received at least one month before the conference (before 7th August) will be charged at 25 percent of cost
  • Cancellations received within one month before the conference (8th August to 30th August) will be charged at 50 percent of total cost
  • Cancellations received within one week of the Conference will receive no refunds.

Research Students

The DSA and The Open University are hoping that we might be able to secure some funding for research student participation (PhD or MPhil), but this is not definite. We will post more details on the site as and when we know more. In the meantime, we suggest you try the following other channels of funding, if you require such:

There are, however, other means through which research students may be able to obtain funding support which will cover all or part of their costs of conference participation:

  • Students are able to approach their financial sponsors to cover conference participation. Enquiries should be made at as early a date as possible. For example, students who are funded through the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission (Association of Commonwealth Universities), or through the Chevening Programme administered by the British Council, may be able to apply for some financial support for their conference participation.
  • Some research students may be able to obtain some funds from the university in which they are pursuing their course of study. Enquiries should be made to the research student co-coordinator of their “home” department.
  • In some cases it may be possible for research students to approach outside bodies for some financial support which will enable them to participate in the conference. The British Council office in their home country may, in some circumstances, be able to provide a little support. There may be other bodies which can be approached.
