KCL: January 2024 news

Eduardo Ortiz-Juarez and Andy Sumner had their research accepted in Structural Change and Economic Dynamics. The paper asks, ‘Is the Era of Declining Global Income Inequality Over?’ It examines the trajectory of global income inequality since 1981 to 2040 and argues there is a global inequality ‘boomerang’. An earlier blog of the paper was published on Duncan Green’s Oxfam blog.

Eduardo Ortiz-Juarez and Andy Sumner also published a chapter on ‘inequality’ in the new text book for students, ‘Global Political Economy’ edited by Nicola Phillips and published by OUP.

Andy Sumner published a new paper with the UN university WIDER and an accompanying brief and blog for Duncan Green’s Oxfam blog on ending global poverty. Andy also presented the work at the ‘Poverty Reduction – Rethinking Policy and Practice’ workshop of the Poverty Study Group of the Development Studies Association. The paper was also cited in the new UK FCDO White Paper and Andy did an interview for CIVICUS.

Andy also took part in the new UN university MOOC on decent work presenting work from his book on the ‘developer’s dilemma’. He also presented from the book at UNESCAP.

Video stories of careers

The School of Global Affairs has launched a video series which covers researchers from all our areas of Development, Global Health, and Environment/Geography. The World Made Me explores just what it was that inspired, drove, pushed, or cajoled researchers into their chosen careers. Watch the short videos & look out for our members from Kings International Development as they appear.
