Better utilisation of research and
evidence in development policy and practice can help save lives,
reduce poverty and improve the quality of life. All too often, however,
it seems that researchers, civil society actors and policymakers
live in parallel universes, and relations between them are strained.
A better understanding of how research can contribute to pro-poor
policies, and systems to put it into practice, are urgently needed.
This session will provide a synthesis of the latest research on
evidence-based policy in developing countries, policy perspectives
from DFID and the latest on effective research communication.
Speakers:
John Young, RAPID programme, ODI : "Bridging
Research and Policy: A Framework and New approaches"
Dylan Winder, DFID : "New
thinking among policy makers"
Dominic Furlong, IDS : "Improved communication
of research results"
Discussion : focused around 3
questions:
- What can be done to encourage policy-makers
to be more evidence-aware?
- What can be done to make research more policy-relevant?
- What can be done to bring the 2 communities
together?
