MA International Political Economy and Development
International Development Department (IDD), University of Birmingham

The University of Birmingham's International Development Department offers the MA International Political Economy and Development programme jointly with the University’s Political Science and International Studies Department. The programme combines theoretical approaches to international political economy with practical experience of development, to create a unique, multi-disciplinary degree. It explores competing theories of political economy and political development: how theories of development link to development practice; different political systems and their histories; the complex relationship between political economy and development, including trade, financial systems, and aid; the impact of political systems and political actors on developmental success and failure; and the impact of the political economy in developing countries (and globally) on aid and donor policies.
