MA Media and International Development
University of East Anglia: School of International Development

On the global platform, the impact of the role of the media has intensified significantly. Organisations are becoming increasingly aware of how media interest can impact on driving international development and social change. The MA Media and International Development aims to address current theories, practice and research surrounding the role of the media in development. It will focus on communication for development and the role of the media in global citizenship and society. This new Masters degree is offered by the School of Development Studies in collaboration with its Commonwealth Broadcasting Association Media Scheme which provides a valuable resource in terms of broadcast materials, expertise, contacts and networks throughout its industry. Its interdisciplinary approach also enables students to take units from the School of Political, Social and International Studies, the School of Economics, and the School of World Art Studies and Museology also based at the University of East Anglia. Training and skills in research methods are also an integral part of the degree course. Teaching methods include a range of units and activities. Assessment will be by essays, preparation for and participation in seminars and projects, an examination, reviews, dissertation work and related data analysis and conclusions. Applicants for the MA programme should have a good first degree in either the social sciences or science. The degree will be particularly attractive to journalists, or those working in media, journalism, new media, television and film on development, globalisation and humanitarian issues.
