MSc/PGDip International Development - Distance Learning

This distance learning MSc/PGDip programme aims to provide students with an understanding of the evolution of thinking and practice in international development over the last 50 or 60 years.  The core module aims to familiarise students with key concepts (e.g. development and poverty) and theories (e.g. modernisation, dependency, neo-liberalism and the 'crisis' in development theory) and with the changing roles of international development organisations and states in promoting international development (e.g. through aid, trade and fiscal, monetary and social policies).  The emphasis throughout is on encouraging students to reflect critically on what has worked well or not, and why.

Entry requirements

Candidates should have a good Honours degree, or equivalent from an approved university (or an equivalent professional qualification in a related field). Degrees from all disciplines are considered. A candidate’s work experience is also taken into consideration.



Start and finish dates

September each year. The programme takes 2-4 years to complete.  Fully online with tutor and peer engagement.
