Urban Governance for Development (International)
International Development Department (IDD), University of Birmingham

The Urban Governance for Development programme brings together the strengths of two of the School’s departments, the International Development Department and the Centre for Regional and Urban Studies. The MSc programme focuses on how the management of towns and cities can contribute to socially inclusive development. It covers: 1) Decentralised Governance and Management 2) Political Economy of Cities and Regions 3) Urban Poverty and Development 4) Urban Regeneration and Renewal 5) Optional modules 6) Overseas fieldwork 7) Dissertation.

Entry requirements
Candidates should have a good Honours degree, or equivalent from an approved university (or an equivalent professional qualification in a related field). Degrees from all disciplines are considered. A candidate’s work experience is also taken into consideration. Applicants whose previous experience has not fully prepared them for an intensive one-year Masters programme may opt to undertake a course of study beginning with a one-year Graduate Diploma in International Development with English. Upon successful completion of this year, these students can then enrol upon one of IDD’s Masters programmes.
