Professional Development Programme
School of International Development / Overseas Development Group
The ODG Professional Development Programme provides individuals or small groups with specialist study programmes. Training can be provided at any time of the year for periods ranging from one week to twelve months. The programme is intended for development professionals, who will benefit from the provision of the environment, facilities and time to pursue aspects of their profession, which are precluded by the responsibilities and routines of their normal work. Visitors are given an opportunity, through guided reading, participation in courses and seminars and discussion with teaching faculty and researchers to update their knowledge of relevant theories, literature, methods and techniques and evaluate their current activities in the light of this new knowledge. Professional Development programmes can be customised around most development-related topics and may be presented in the form of a traditional sectorial update (e.g. natural resources, health, economics, education, social policy) or adopt a more cross-thematic or issue-led approach (e.g. environment and sustainability, socio-political transition, local economic empowerment, pro-poor information and communication, globalisation, impact of HIV/AIDS, equity and gender). If you are interested in a Professional Development programme, please contact us giving details of your educational and professional background, your learning objectives, the length of time you wish to spend in the UK and approximately the time of year which would be most suitable for your visit to the UK.
