BA Third World Development Studies
School of Cultural and Innovation Studies, University of East London

The course is designed to provide students with an detailed and broad understanding of the lived experience of developing societies. The course challenges the assumption that development is only an economic phenomenon. It looks in detail at globalisation, colonialism, the environment, gender relations, religion, popular culture and politics. Students study 18 units in total, on a full-time programme (3 years to complete), three in each semester.

Entry requirements

180-220 UCAS Tariff points; 12+ points at A/AS level; Merit (A)GNVQ; CCCC Scottish Highers; 24 points (Pass) International Baccalaureate Highers, all at Level 4); 65% European Baccalaureate; 1 Distinction, 6/4 Merits BTEC/SCOTEC Diploma/Certificate, Relevant NVQ(3) and work experience; Relevant Access Course; Other/overseas qualifications individually assessed; Qualifications preferably to include social science or humanities subjects; Mature students with relevant work experience or an Access (or relevant vocational) qualification are encouraged to apply.



Start and finish dates
Students may start in February or September. Full-time study is 3 years. Part-time study is 5-7 year
