Individual Directory

Individual Guide

Welcome to our new directory of individual members.

This is a directory of individual and concessionary members' interests and experience. We hope that this will become a key resource for other researchers, journalists, NGOs, the corporate sector - in fact, anyone who wants to find out more about specific development related issues, topics and debates.

Every individual and concessionary member is able to have a profile on this directory and to update your entry is extremely simple. Please download the How To Guide to update or add your entry to this Directory.

Erich Kofmel

The founding Managing Director (since 2006) and a Research Professor of Political Theory (since 2010) at the Sussex Centre for the Individual and Society (SCIS), I studied for a doctoral degree in social and political thought at the University of Sussex and Sciences Po/The Institute of Political Studies in Paris. I hold Master's degrees in Public and Development Management, with specialisation in Governance and Public Policy (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg), and Roman Catholic Theology (St Augustine College of South Africa), both awarded with distinction, as well as a Commercial Certificate of Ability (Switzerland) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Comparative and Cross-Cultural Research Methods (University of Sussex). Having many years of professional experience in general and project management in the private, public, and non-governmental sectors in Europe and Africa, I also served, among other things, as Chairman of the Postgraduate Association of the University of Sussex (PGA) and a member of the University's Research Degrees and Professional Doctorates Committee and as Coordinator of the "Career Development" workgroup of the European council of doctoral candidates and young researchers (Eurodoc). I have been invited to present my research at institutions as austere and diverse as the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the University of Tehran, the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, the London School of Economics, the European University Institute in Florence, the European Science Foundation, the European Consortium for Political Research, the American Political Science Association, and the World International Studies Committee, and accepted invitations to serve as referee for the journals "Political Studies", "Philosophical Frontiers", "International Political Science Review", "Philosophy and Rhetoric", and "European Journal of Development Research".
