This DFID funded research project aimed at investigating the quality and relevance of vocational education and training provided by Nigerian Vocational and Technical Institutions (namely Polytechnics). A related aim of the investigation is to assess the extent to which the educational and training provided by the polytechnics actually contributes to employability of graduates and, skills needs of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The study is undertaken against the backdrop of the growing poverty and youth unemployment in the country. It is hoped that the outcome of the study will provide information to policy-makers and stakeholders to make informed decisions on issues pertaining to poverty, skills needs of SMEs, and youth unemployment.
