News from the newly formed DSA Young African Scholars Chapter

At the joint DSA/EADI Conference in York, September 19 – 22nd 2011, a group of young African scholars, many of whom had received bursaries to attend and present at the event, came together spontaneously to organise a more coherent interest group. Information exchange is now underway with an email list having been set up by the leader of the group, Prince Osei from Ghana. If you are interested in joining this group, then please contact Princeprinceosei2@hotmail.com

On October 31, 2011, Prince Osei presented a paper at the Benue Agro Exposure Conference in Benue State, Nigeria; on Reducing Poverty through Fairtrade: Experiences from Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union in Ghana; a conference that was organised by Community Footprint for Enhanced Development Participation. Significantly too, in November 28-30, 2011, Prince was also involved in an international conference jointly organised by Makerere University in Uganda, CLASCO-CROP, Nile Basin Research Programme and Nordic Africa Institute on POVERTY, WATER AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT.

This conference sought to build South-South research collaboration towards tackling common development challenges with enormous success. At the conference, Prince presented a paper on SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS OF WATER POVERTY IN RURAL GHANA among many other thought provoking papers on water resource governance, managent and local development from African and Lartin American Researchers to deal with the water question.

We should also inform all members of DSA-African Regional Chapter and colleagues in Europe and beyond that there will be an INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON POVERTY, SOCIAL EXCLUSION AND DEVELOPMENT on  8TH TO 12TH OCTOBER, 2012 at the UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST, GHANA.

Interested colleagues can check the call for abstracts and papers at  for more information.

Please send your news through to Prince who will then forward it on to us for inclusion in this bulletin.
