The group encourages research and discussion on issues including: ageing, poverty and well-being; inter-generational transfers, pensions and households; public policy towards older groups; work and retirement; health and ageing; household structure, living arrangements, and ageing.

Discussion Group
We have just set up an “Ageing and development” Yahoo
Group. This serve as a networking site for members of the Study Group, so
please do sign up. It is also open to people who are not members of the Study
Group, but who are interested in ageing and development issues.

the missing link: a neglected dimension in age policy

Margaret was previously Professor of Sociology at University of Ghana, where
she worked closely with Professor Nana Apt.
The
idea of this session is to have a centrepiece presentation, with two or three
related observation pieces of about 10 mins each to contribute to a
facilitated discussion. We already have one additional "observation
piece" looking at parallels with UK transport issues for older people.
If you would like to contribute or recommend someone else please let me know.

We are delighted that Sjaak Van der Geest, Professor of Medical Anthropology
at the University of Amsterdam, has agreed to give a paper on
"End-of-life care and good death in Ghana and The
Netherlands: Ironic contrasts".
Please let Peter Lloyd Sherlock know if you are interested in providing an
informal 30 minute paper. Ideally, it might address issues partly related to
Sjaak's talk. This would enable us to thematise the meeting around
"Later life and end of life".
