Forthcoming Meetings

Wednesday 7 January 2009 at 1.00 to 4:30
Place: HelpAge International, Pentonville Road, London

Theme: Transport, the missing link: a neglected dimension in age policy

 * what role does transport have for reducing social exclusion and rural social inequalities older people?

* how would the achievement of the MDGs be affected by better transport?

* how can transport be integrated in to development policy and practice?

* what is the balance of ethical and environmental issues for improving transport in LDCs?

Margaret Greico, Professor of Transport & Society at Napier University, Edinburgh has agreed to present a paper on the subject of: Transport, a critical dimension in development: integration  in  programme provision for older people

Margaret was previously Professor of Sociology at University of Ghana, where she worked closely with Professor Nana Apt.

The idea of this session is to have a centrepiece presentation, with two or three related observation pieces of about 10 mins each to contribute to a facilitated discussion.  We already have one additional "observation piece" looking at parallels with UK transport issues for older people.  If you would like to contribute or recommend someone else please let me know.

If you would like to attend please confirm  with Ama Bartimeus at HelpAge International (abartimeus@helpage. org), so that we can order sufficient lunch.
