Vacancy – CDS Research Associate in International Development

The University of Bath’s Department of Social and Policy Sciences wishes to recruit a post-doctoral researcher in International Development on a two year fixed contract. The Department is a world class centre for international development research and teaching excellence, committed to interdisciplinary and impactful research.

We are looking for a highly ambitious and academically outstanding candidate seeking an opportunity to develop their career as a researcher in the field of international development. Applicants must have recently been awarded a relevant doctorate, but must not have already held a paid post-doctoral research position for more than 12 months. This post is funded out of an endowment with the explicit goal of supporting the professional development of early career researchers who have recently completed a doctorate and are seeking their first post-doctoral or paid research associate position. It is therefore offered on a two year fixed-term and non-renewable basis.

They will be expected and supported to submit publications in top rated international development journals, to seek further external funding for their research, to contribute actively to a lively research community and to gain experience with teaching and public engagement relevant to global poverty, inequality and/or well-being. We encourage applications from scholars with research interests in any subfield of international development that improves our existing portfolio. Applicants are strongly encouraged to visit the Department’s website, as well as that of the Centre for Development Studies.

The post is offered on a full-time basis (36.5 hours/week) fixed term for 2 years. Applications must include an academic CV as well as a cover letter demonstrating how experience and expertise meets the criteria set out in the person specification.

For informal enquiries email James Copestake ([email protected]) or Susan Johnson ([email protected]).
