Recovering Development: Annual Meeting of the Development Studies Association Scotland Study Group

Thursday 4th September 2025. University of Edinburgh

This one-day research symposium, co-hosted by the Development Studies Association Scotland Study Group and the University of Edinburgh’s Centre of African Studies and Global Health Policy Unit, seeks to bring together scholars and active researchers to unpack and critique recent changes in global development. It will invite multi-disciplinary perspectives, aiming to generate discussion and stimulate learning across boundaries. See attached for further details.

Registration: free via Eventbrite.

The organisers invite submissions for symposium presentations on issues relevant to recovery in global development. These can include, but are not limited to:

1. Issues of poverty and inequality and how these are evolving in contemporary contexts.

2. Innovations and initiatives being adopted to tackle development challenges.

3. The state of global health, its governance, and the complex relationships between health objectives and public and private spheres of policy-making.

4. The social, economic and political impacts of climate change, environmental degradation and how governments and communities are responding in different contexts.

5. Trends in aid, the impacts of recent cuts, and the emergence of alternative channels for the financing of development.
