DSA2025 Statement on Palestine

25 June 2025, Development Studies Association conference

At a keynote plenary on ‘Locating Hope within the (poly)crisis – a discussion between Jean Drèze and Adomako Ampofo, Jean Drèze called for conference delegates to unite around a statement on Gaza. The DSA encourages those delegates who wish to support the statement below to add their name to this short statement of academics standing for action on Palestine.

For those who wish to make more detailed and personal statements, please email [email protected] to have your words added to these voices, created and shared by DSA earlier in the year.

We the undersigned, as members of the development community, strongly deplore the atrocities taking place in Gaza. We urge governments to:

  • take action against the government of Israel in order to cease their aggressions and immediately allow international aid into Gaza
  • hold the state of Israel to account for breaking international laws
  • demand the end of the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands and
  • recognise the State of Palestine.
