Funding

26–28 June 2024, Hybrid at SOAS University of London

Social justice and development in a polarising world

rights and representation; redistribution and restoration; reproduction and production

The Call for Funding is now OPEN

Through generous awards from the Journal of Development Studies, SOAS University of London and the DSA, the DSA2024 conference organisers are able to allocate support funds to help with accepted authors’ and convenors’ attendance to the DSA conference at SOAS University of London, 26-28 June 2024.  The funds are for both online and face-to-face (F2F) delegates.

The rules and criteria are straightforward:

  • ALL applications must be submitted via the ONLINE FORM
  • Only authors with accepted papers or panels to DSA2024 may apply.
  • Applicants should not seek ‘double-funding’ (i.e. you already have full funding from another source). Our aim is to support those who only have partial funding from another source or have no funding at all.
  • Requests for funding may NOT be to cover DSA membership subscriptions.
  • Prioritisation of this support will, in order, be for those who are both from the global South and based at institutions in the global South, early career academics, students and those with exceptional circumstances.

Deadline for applications: 9 March 2024

If you have any questions email us conference(at)devstud.org.uk

No request for funding is guaranteed as we expect demand to be greater than the availability of support.

Online delegates: Funding awarded will be allocated as a registration fee waiver in our system, meaning you will either pay nothing for registration or a discounted registration fee. Please do not pay your registration fee until you hear the funding results.

F2F delegates: The initial portion of funding will be allocated as a registration fee waiver in our system; any allocation exceeding that will be remitted to recipients’ bank accounts on receipt of electronic receipts for visa, travel and accommodation costs. Successful applicants must pay their costs up-front and submit receipts in order to be refunded ahead of time or at the conference. (An inability to pay up-front should not discourage you from applying for funds as exceptions can be made in cases where this is not possible.)

Conditions of funding: All successful applicants will need to pay their costs up-front and then submit receipts in order to be refunded ahead of time or at the conference. (An inability to pay up-front should not discourage you from applying for funds as exceptions can be made in cases where this is not possible.) If a funded delegate is unable to attend the conference, they may be asked to return the full sum, if the circumstances merit it. Receipts are required in order to receive funding. These are the conditions accepted in applying for the funds.
