Public events

  • Soomin Oh presented the latest research around public engagement with global poverty and development at the OECD Devcom-DEL joint workshop (March 2025)
  • Soomin Oh spoke as the guest speaker at Scottish International Development Alliance annual conference (April 2025). She presented insights around Scottish public opinion around global poverty and development.
  • “IDD British Academy International Fellow, Babatunde Obamamoye, participated in the Third GSCIS Author Symposium in Chicago on 1 March 2025 (organised by the International Studies Association [ISA]), where he presented his paper on “Decolonising Peacebuilding Interventions.” The symposium was part of the ISA 2025 Annual Convention, Chicago.”

Other research news

  • Sandra Pertek was invited to share a statement at the Civil Society Forum, during the UN Commission for Social Development in NY. In Thematic Session 2, ‘Towards the Second World Social Summit: Safeguarding the Future’, she highlighted the link between women, peace and security and social development and the need for inclusive, intersectional, and cross-cultural approaches.
  • Sandra Pertek spoke at the high-level panel “Safeguarding the Future: Addressing the Impacts of Conflict on Children, Youth, and Girls for Inclusive Socio-Economic Development”, during the 63rd Session of the UN Commission for Social Development. She emphasised why displaced girls must be at the centre of humanitarian and policy responses, focusing especially on GBV, education and menstrual justice.
  • Sandra Pertek held an online panel to mark the launch of the UKRI-funded research initiative ‘Making aid work for displaced women’. The event brought together academics and practitioners, featuring speakers from UNHCR, IFRC and Islamic Development Bank and initiated a global conversation about the role of Islamic philanthropy in responses to women in displacement.
